UK motorists can now check live petrol and diesel prices on Google Maps, the company confirmed for launch this Thursday. The feature allows drivers to search for local forecourts within the app and compare fuel costs in real time.
The move aims to increase price transparency at the pump and encourage competition between fuel retailers. Campaigners have described the development as potentially "a major development" in making fuel prices fairer for consumers.
The launch comes after diesel costs hit a record £2 per litre, putting pressure on motorists and triggering calls for better price visibility across the market.
Millions of UK drivers will gain access to the tool through the Google app interface.
